Fat Hog Tools

Our task:

Fat Hog Evolution brand development + launch

Fat Hog is a range of decorating tools aimed at professional decorators. Launched 2007, Fat Hog was promoted as a no nonsense, straight talking brand; products designed to make decorators jobs easier enabling a quality paint finish.

After further product development, client PPG Architectural Coatings wanted to launch a new enhanced range branded ‘Fat Hog Evolution’. Fusion was briefed to develop a launch strategy initially focussing on paint roller sleeves.

Our creative approach aimed to excite the market, reigniting interest in the brand to become the product of choice for the trade.

A new strap line was created to underpin the new product technical enhancements and user benefits: Smarter    Stronger    Faster

The results of the campaign had a positive impact on sales enabling phase 2 roll out of Fat Hog Evolution brushes.

Project skills/elements:

  • New website – Animated menacing hog’s eyes and SFX introduced the campaign strapline and “unleashed” message.
  • Trade press campaign– Included both teaser advert as per the web splash and a launch advert within key trade media – Professional Builder and The Decorator.
  • In-store Merchant display – Included large format posters, ‘bus stop’ graphic and a circular shelf barker helped distinguish the range offer.
  • Range literature – a series of product guides
  • Exhibition participation – the Fat Hog challenge – where decorators are invited to reach inside a customised Fat Hog crate and in true ‘I’m a celebrity’ style reach inside to extract top prizes from slime and bugs. The crate was custom built by Fusion and had animated hog eyes showing through the crate slats whilst emitting grunts and snorts.
